do all the talkin’
let it finally breathe in
the fires of the moment
let it speak colors
let it say to its oppressors
that we’re from the same creator.
let my skin
bask in all that is encouraging
even through historical shunning
it’s here, it’s brown, it’s vibrating
it is still revolutionizing
it is out here protesting
fighting for equality.
let my skin
truly be recognized
for reaching the ultimate prize
as the odds always demonize
while some continue to penalize
its natural right of existence.
let my skin
and others like me
envelop all corners of this country
with a message of hope
that for good, ends racial hierarchy
as we continue to dance in anger’s symphony.
