I wanted to say
all of it before today
that even when the world is gray
you can try your best to be gay.
I wanted to feel
all that burst me into the real
no longer trapped in confusion’s wheel
nor in lust’s wrecked automobile.
I wanted to be
all that a lover can see
a shining heart, the solace of the sea
the intricate connection between you and me.
I wanted to be
the heroes of unsung stories
this feeling of human decency
that we all need.
I wanted to be
more than I can ever imagine
like the sweet taste of tangerine
from your lips while being in quarantine.
